- Results are rounded to eight decimal places and formatted for your locale.
Conversion factors
All units convert through seconds:
| Unit | Seconds |
|---|---|
| millisecond | 0.001 |
| minute | 60 |
| hour | 3 600 |
| day | 86 400 |
| week | 604 800 |
| month | 2 628 000 (30.4167 days, 1/12 of a year) |
| year | 31 536 000 (365 days) |
| decade | 315 360 000 |
| century | 3 153 600 000 |
Months and years are fixed averages: a year is 365 days with no leap days, and a month is exactly one twelfth of that. This is a duration converter, not a calendar; it does not count real months, leap years or time zones. The value must be greater than zero.
Example
1 day → 86 400 s · 1 440 min · 24 hr · 0.14285714 week · 0.00273973 year

Frequently asked questions
- How many seconds are in a day?
- 86,400 seconds: 24 hours × 60 minutes × 60 seconds. A week is 604,800 seconds and a 365-day year is 31,536,000 seconds.
- How many milliseconds are in an hour?
- 3,600,000 milliseconds. Timeouts in code are often set in milliseconds, so 900,000 ms is 15 minutes and 86,400,000 ms is one day.
- How many seconds are in a month?
- It depends on the month: 2,419,200 for February, 2,592,000 for a 30-day month and 2,678,400 for a 31-day month. This converter uses the average of 2,628,000 seconds (30.42 days).
- What is the difference between a microsecond and a millisecond?
- A millisecond is one thousandth of a second (10⁻³ s) and a microsecond is one millionth (10⁻⁶ s), so there are 1,000 microseconds in a millisecond. A nanosecond is a further 1,000 times smaller.
